Kubernetes is an extremely flexible platform. It was designed from the get-go for extensibility, and as it evolved, more parts of Kubernetes were opened up, exposed through robust interfaces, and they can be replaced by alternative implementations. I venture to say that the exponential adoption of Kubernetes across the board by start - ups, large companies, infrastructure providers, and cloud providers is a direct result of Kubernetes providing a lot of capabilities out of the box, but also allowing easy integration with other actors.
