Framing and composition

Framing and composition are two fundamental aspects that help you transform a boring shot into something far more interesting. Throughout this Cookbook, the famous rule of thirds has been mentioned several times, but there is more skill involved in creating a well-balanced and pleasant shot. This recipe is going to help you understand some basic rules and show how you can create interesting shots.

Getting ready

For this recipe, we are going to see several good and not so good examples of how we can compose and frame a particular shot.

How to do it…

Let's start by opening the Movie mode and performing the following steps:

  1. Select a blank clip and click on the Record button to start recording a camera path.
  2. The first concept you need to keep in mind is that the center square is not always the best move, and the following screenshot shows an example of a shot where the centre square is used:
