Summary

In this chapter, we covered a lot of the configuration options that most pfSense users will want to use at some point. We briefly discussed IPv6 addressing, and how it is different compared to IPv4 addressing, because IPv6 addressing is a topic that will recur often as we delve further into pfSense. We covered some additional setup options not discussed in Chapter 2, Installing pfSense, and also discussed how to enable SSH login, which is useful if you are not at the console but still want to use the console menu or other console commands. We covered how to add interfaces and how to enable DHCP and DHCPv6 servers on those interfaces. Finally, we briefly discussed how to set up a VLAN in pfSense.

In the next chapter, we will cover one of the services that many pfSense users who are utilizing pfSense in a SOHO environment may want to make use of: captive portal.
