Identifying buses and interfaces


Now that we have a good understanding of the different components present in an embedded device, let's have a look at how we can identify the different buses and interfaces present in a device.

For this, the first step would be to open up the device and look at the PCB. Note that in this section, we will only be concerned with identifying what a particular pin, or header, or chip is for, rather than actually connecting to it, which is what we will cover in the next section.

How to do it...We will start by looking for UART which is one of the hacker's favorite interface to get access to the device. We will start by looking at the internals of UART, moving to how to identify the pinouts and finally how to connect with the target device.
