Portlet testing — time to walk the walk

To perform portlet testing, test the following:

• PPR: Portlets by default will render sequentially. The WebSphere Portal Information Center can provide more information on how to turn PPR on to provide the ability for portlets to render in parallel. But, besides its activation at portlet and server levels, it is necessary to look at PPR from strategic perspective where the criteria for testing, deciding its benefit for a certain page is determined, as mentioned in the overall metrics session in the Overall test metrics section. At a high level, we can affirm that in order to be able to decide on PPR benefits, it s necessary to test them.

• Themes and skins: Set aside some time to test themes and skins for performance. Test themes and skins for performance, cache as much as possible, but also test themes for security, as there could be some exposed security vulnerability via the themes.

• Custom code (portlets and servlets): Be extra diligent on the testing...
