Following the book so far, you've been moving clips around in time, chopping them up, selecting and deleting, and hopefully getting a bit more confident. Probably the single most common operation you've done so far is a basic trim on a single edit point. Simple one-point trimming is certainly a useful operation, and you can make a clip longer or shorter with the keyboard or the mouse. But a one-point trim doesn't always do enough.
