Before a project meeting


For the first project team meeting, consider making it special. The group may or may not have worked together before. This is an opportunity to build a sense of teamwork. A few items to consider for your project kickoff meeting:

  • Incorporate some element of fun. We talked about icebreakers in Chapter 8, Pitch Meetings. This is another type of meeting that can be well served starting with an icebreaker, especially if team members are from different departments and don't work together on a regular basis.

  • Consider a personality profile. To help the team learn about each other, the project manager might want to have team members do a personality profile or communications profile. This allows team members to learn about each other and the best ways to manage conflict and problem solving within the group.

  • Establish a communications protocol. Whether it's a printed list of names, e-mails, and phone numbers or internal collaboration software, the team needs to know right away...
