After the pitch


After the pitch meeting concludes, it's all about follow-up.

When you pitch an idea or plan to someone else, you want to follow up and thank them for listening, even if you ultimately do not get approval. It's important to respect that someone took the time out of their schedule to listen to your pitch and consider it. You'll possibly want to pitch to them again sometime. Thank them. Even when a pitch meeting goes perfect, and you're 99.9% sure you're going to get approval, you still want to thank the person or group for their time.

Often during the pitch meeting, follow-up items will be generated from all parties. Here's an example of a pitch meeting I recently attended.

A company contacted me to do some work for them. The person who contacted me I've known for years, and she's very familiar with my work. She's in a decision-making capacity with the organization. We met and she shared with me the scope of work.

Great! Then she asks me to meet a few members of her team. No worries...
