Creating VMFS datastores

The storage devices (LUNs) presented to the ESXi host can be formatted with the Virtual Machine File System (VMFS) to create datastores that can be used to store virtual machines. The datastore can be created by either directly connecting to the ESXi host or from the vCenter.

In this recipe, we will learn about how to create VMFS datastores using the vCenter Server.

How to do it...

The following procedure will help you to create a VMFS datastore:

Connect to vCenter Server using the HTML5 client.
In the Storage inventory view, right-click on the desired Datacenter and navigate to Storage | New Datastore...:

In the New Datastore wizard, select Type as VMFS and click Next to continue:
