Prevention
Prevention is a key part of a security program and is usually integrated into the protect phase of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Cybersecurity Framework. NIST also mentions prevention as being part of the preparation phase of the incident response process. Indeed, being able to prevent a breach is always better than detecting an intruder later on. There are multiple approaches to breach or intrusion prevention.
One important thing we've noticed after several years of incident response practice is that even if the initial access methods vary, common pitfalls stand out in the majority of companies. Here are some of them at the different layers of security.
People: Security awareness does not exist or is too high level or too partial (lack of pragmatism), or people are bored by security measures and so they live their everyday lives without taking care or considering cybersecurity risks.
Processes: No processes are in place to correctly...
