Summary

RMAN is a very vast, yet a very easy-to-use tool, making it a really good solution to do backups and recoveries. In this chapter, we listed some of the reasons why one should opt for RMAN and then proceeded to explain the different formats and backup types supported by it. Finally, we saw how to use RMAN for the new multitenant container databases of the database release 12c.

In the next chapter, we will talk about the possible configurations within RMAN and the recovery cases that are possible following the loss of several types of files.
