Summary
In this chapter you have learned how to network disparate Moodle systems. After providing an overview of Moodle networking, we covered some pre-requisites and security issues, peer-to-peer networks, community hubs, and concluded with Mahara integration.
The networking facility that has recently been introduced to Moodle provides a new dimension to virtual learning environments. Disparate VLEs can be connected logically and roaming from one Moodle site to another can be facilitated. This opens up entirely new opportunities, whether it is among entities within your organization or with external sites.
It is expected that the community hub feature will be extended in the near future to simplify the process of finding and navigating external Moodle repositories. There will also be significant changes in the way you can interact with Mahara and other e-portfolio systems from within Moodle, once the forthcoming Portfolio API will have been implemented.
