When you create an entity in the CDS it can either be user-, team-, or organization-owned.
Entities that are user- or team-owned have the additional Assign and Share privileges compared with organization-owned entities. The Assign privilege is concerned with record ownership. When you create a record, you become the owner of that record.
If you own a record, the record also belongs to the business unit that you are in. This is how the business unit/security role model works. If you change your business unit, your records move with you, and their business unit is changed also.
The owner of a record can be a user or a team. It is common for teams to own records, such as accounts not being managed by a salesperson but handled by all salespeople in a department, or in marketing, where marketeers do not have responsibility for individual contacts.
