Architecting for sustainability
From an overall success point of view, a smart IIoT solution is one that is desirable from an end user perspective, viable from a business perspective, and feasible from a technology implementation perspective. A fourth, and probably the most important, pillar is whether the architected solution is sustainable from an environment, social, and governance (ESG) perspective. This is described in Figure 11.8.

The intersection between the four circles is the magic or sweet spot for a great architecture design. The idea, mathematically, would be to make all the circles coincide with each other, which in practice would be far from ideal.
