Introduction
Effect is a rather vague word. At its most basic definition, an effect is a change that is a result or consequence of an action or other cause. We are merely changing our video (or audio) in some way or another. It might be a special effect used to transport our viewers to another time and place. It might be disguising a person's face or voice. It might be simply making your video black and white instead of color. Sometimes it can be used to improve your clip and sometimes used to purposely distort it.
FCPX has more than 100 built-in effects, and, as we'll show in one of the recipes in this chapter, you can download many, many more on the Internet (some are free, but of course, others may require payment).
