Using Picture in Picture effects in iMovie
Picture in Picture (PiP) is perhaps the iMovie effect that gives you the most creative scope. It allows you to resize the overlay clip so that it fits within the frame of the main video, and, as we’ll see later, animate that clip around the frame as the video plays. PiP is a great way to display extra information with more flexibility than a cutaway. PiP is not the most subtle of effects, but it can be used to add a significant amount of extra meaning and context to your video. Here’s how to add a PiP.
For iOS and iPadOS:
- Add the clip you want to feature within the frame of another clip (tap the three dots and select Add as... | Picture in Picture).
- The clip will appear as a smaller version of itself inside the main video:
