Creating a Check Point base VM
We are going to have two different types of Check Point VMs in our environment: the Security Management Server (SMS) and the gateways (CPCM1 and CPCM2 in a High Availability (HA) cluster and CPGW as a single gateway), but in the interest of saving time, we will be using the same base VM for all of them.
Note
Keep in mind that the actual hardware (or virtual hardware requirements) for Check Point gateways and servers are quite higher than the values we are using in the lab. These could be found at https://sc1.checkpoint.com/documents/R81.10/WebAdminGuides/EN/CP_R81.10_RN/Topics-RN/Hardware-Requirements.htm?tocpath=Open%20Server%20Hardware%20Requirements%7C_____1#Minimal_Hardware_Requirements. If space is not an issue in your lab environment, for HDD, allocate 80 GB and leave the partition sizes at suggested default values, when prompted. Otherwise, use the values specified in the following steps.
