Building Real-World Web Applications with Vue.js 3

Introduction to Vue.js

This book will get you familiar with one of the most popular modern frontend frameworks at this time: Vue.js. Modern frameworks make it easy to add interactivity to static web pages and can help you build entire web applications!

The latter is exactly what you will be learning while going through this book. You will learn different techniques that fit specific use cases, and this will result in a collection of portfolio-ready projects.

Before you start building projects, we will take a look at the context in which we will build those projects. In this chapter, we will get you set up to start any Vue.js project using the best practices.

We will cover the following topics in this chapter:

  • The need for Vue.js
  • Requirements and tooling
  • Setting up the development environment
  • My first app

Technical requirements

Before we get started, we need to make sure we’ve met all requirements to install and run Vue.js, and to also develop applications. Familiarity with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript with TypeScript is required to understand the concepts that are built on top of these technologies.

In order for us to run Vue.js locally, we need to install Node.js (https://nodejs.org/en/download). This is a runner for JavaScript on your development machine.

Description

In the ever-evolving web development landscape, Vue.js stands out with its intuitive design and progressive framework, empowering developers to create interactive and dynamic web applications. This book will help you stay in the forefront of modern web technologies by mastering Vue.js through hands-on projects and practical applications. Building Real-World Web Applications with Vue.js 3 is your guide to exploring the core concepts of Vue.js, setting up your development environment, and creating your first Vue.js application. You’ll progress by building a recipe app using Vuetify, followed by leveraging data visualization to create a fitness tracker featuring dynamic dashboards using external databases and Vue-ChartJS. You'll then get to grips with multiplatform development with Quasar to deploy your app. As you develop an interactive quiz app, you’ll be introduced to server-side logic with Nuxt.js, WebSockets for real-time communication, and client-server differentiation. Additionally, you’ll study experimental object recognition using TensorFlow, leveraging machine learning and camera input, and conclude by creating a portfolio website with Nuxt and Storyblok. By the end of this book, you'll have the knowledge and confidence to create your own Vue.js applications and build a portfolio to showcase your Vue.js skills to potential employers.

I'm about halfway through the book. A few errors in the text but workable. The code in the book is another matter. Lots and lots of errors in the code. Chapter 5 is awful for that. Typography errors, missing lines, etc.In chapter 6 the author uses a function that was this experimental at the time of writing. So all the book's instructions for that function don't apply anymore since that function as been included in a later distribution of Vue.js.

The book arrived with some minor scratches. My first assessment was not fair. Great book about vue.js. Nice place to kickstart your vue adventure!

The quality of this book is quite bad. Almost all the code listings inside the book are either bad formatted (missing line breaks and concatenating multiple lines together) or have syntax errors. Especially quote-signs and backticks are anywhere, but not where they should be.Sometime good pieces of code are omitted in the book but given on GitHub. Unfortunately, with their own errors. The book is also not explaining the important stuff. It does not explain how the single pieces of vue.js work together. If people have already experiences with vue, then this is ok. In return, the examples are very basic which I would conclude to, this book should be made for beginners.Unuseful stuff are sometimes explained in its very detail and repeated all over again. The author hasn't really found the right focus.Overall, the book seemed to be created in a great rush, with lots of errors, missing information and unnecessary repetitions. Every single YouTube tutorial is worth a thousands more.

Starts you off with a simple app in the beginning that progresses to apps with more complexity. A well-rounded book that will help you understand Vue 3 and it eco-system. It's a good read if you're new or wanting to learn Vue, state management and other practical things you'll experience as a Vue developer.
