Visualizing the silhouette of sculpted hair

There are many situations where visualizing the silhouette of our sculptures can be helpful. Sculpting hair is an excellent example of this because hair contributes a lot to the shape of a character's silhouette. It is important to think about the silhouette when preparing to sculpt something complicated, such as hair, because it allows us to determine whether the shapes are aesthetically pleasing early in the process. Surface details, such as individual strands of hair, do not contribute to the silhouette. It is easy to become distracted by the small details while we work on the large forms of the hair sculpture, so it can be helpful to view the model without any surface detail while we block out the major forms of the hair.

In this section, we will learn how to customize Blender's viewport settings to show our sculpture's silhouette.
