Planning for a Microsoft 365 backup

Before changing Office 365 for Business subscriptions for users, you'll want to back up their content to ensure nothing is lost. You may also wish to back up content for other purposes so that it can be restored or referenced in the event of a user error. Each app has different ways of accomplishing backups:

  • For Outlook, you'll export a .pst file of the user's email, contacts, and calendar from the existing subscription and then import it into their new subscription.
  • For OneDrive for Business documents, you can download their contents to a local drive or a different location (like you can do with SharePoint).
  • In Yammer, admins can export all files, notes, messages, topics, users, and groups to a .zip file.
