Clarity and accountability are key ingredients for a successful strategic planning session. Here are five tips from business pros on the best way to achieve it.

Jim Gallo, MS, SPHR, associate director at The Center for Organizational Effectiveness at Florida Tech, stresses simplicity.

"Simple: Rome was not built in a day! Therefore do not attempt building an entire organizational or departmental strategy in one day. Keep it simple and keep asking the pivotal question; "How is today's strategy meeting going to drive the company forward?" This should be at the top of every agenda, power point etc.

Eliminate Distractions (time for a cruise): Having a strategy meeting does not automatically mean a stuffy boardroom with big comfy chairs and a fancy power point.
