Where is our data? Again…

I want to finish this chapter on a high note by telling a real-life story that reflects our data governance journey at the company.

You might recall how this book started: by telling concerned business leaders and users where their data is and who is in charge of it.

Through the years of having well-established global data management capabilities, we had a rather simple answer to these questions. As you may recall, originally, we were driven by the internal marketing motto “We make data business-ready.” Those days, while on the path to centralization, it was an accurate and concise statement and an answer as well at the same time. With further evolution of data efforts, the answer would be something such as “Your data is in the good and caring hands of the enterprise data team, and hence we are also in charge of its quality; however, we do share this responsibility and effort with you.”
