Categorizing the business requirements by business drivers
Business drivers are internal or external influences which cause a business to act. Business drivers are normally linked to a company's goals and objectives. Linking business drivers to a requirement enables the stakeholders to understand the impact of each requirement.
Getting ready
The business intelligence and data warehouse project should have a business case or project charter defined that outlines the reasons for the project and how the project can contribute to the business goals and objectives.
How to do it...
Gather the business drivers from the business case for the project or from your company's objectives and goals:
1. Define or enhance your list of business drivers, for example:
Reduce cost — the requirement will result in a cost reduction
Increase revenue — the requirement will result in an increase in revenue
Data standardization — the requirement will result in the standardization of information within the organization
