Using MeshLab for cleaning meshes
MeshLab has a collection of filters that can aid in the repair of a model. In this recipe, we'll attempt a repair using the capsule model.
Getting ready
You'll need the original capsule .obj
file that hasn't been repaired. You'll also need MeshLab open and ready.
How to do it...
We will proceed as follows:
- Load the capsule file and take a look around it. There appears to be only three faces missing. These areas are shown in the following image:
- Before we begin making repairs, let's open the Layer Dialog box by selecting Show Layer Dialog in the menu. This will give us a record of our repairs.
- Now, let's get started by closing up the open areas of the model. Go to Filters and select Remeshing, Simplification, and Reconstruction. Scroll down to the next cascaded window and select Close Holes. Keep the default values and select Apply. When the filter is complete, click on Close to close the window.
