Assessing the Current State
Assessing the current state will be an ongoing task and is needed every time you look to build your roadmaps. Building your roadmaps is not a one-time activity; they will need to be continuously reviewed to ensure that they meet the needs of an organization to accomplish the final defined goal. There will also be different triggers that initiate the need to review the current state to build your roadmap. The most difficult will be entering an organization as a new leader. Here, you will have a lot to learn, and your focus may be occupied more with learning the business initially. If you are promoted from within the organization to a new leadership role overseeing the cybersecurity program, your focus on the roadmap may be a lot more tactical, as you are both familiar with the technical aspect and the organization as a whole.
