What are text layers?
Text layers (for now) are created by the Text tool, and in this case, we will be creating the text using the Artistic text tool (see Figure 3.19, item 1).
To use the Artistic text tool, simply select the tool and type on the image. Notice the type of layer it creates. To modify the text, just click on the text with the tool still selected and adjust it as necessary (see Figure 3.19, item 2):

The text has a position in the composition, a blend mode, and opacity. The reason we wanted to cover the text layer early in this book is that many people will want to create memes and pieces of content collateral, and that all involves text.
