Google's billing model means that you are charged for vCPUs, GPUs, and GB of memory per 1 minute. If you run a VM for only 30 seconds, you will still be charged for the full 1 minute of usage. However, Google also offers the opportunity to significantly reduce monthly billing. Sustained use discounts reduce the cost of running specific GCE resources.
Predefined machine types are a fixed collection of resources with a preset number of vCPUs and amount of memory and are charged at a set price.
Custom machine types can be used if the predefined types don't map to your requirements. As you would expect, we can, therefore, specify the number of vCPUs and memory. This may be because the workload requirements need more memory or processing power.
Sole tenant nodes will also receive discounts. We have spoken in more detail about these in the preceding sections.
