Implementing an ISMS – a SWOT analysis
In strategic planning, the SWOT analysis framework is used to assess a company’s competitive position and identify opportunities and threats (see Figure 2.2). A SWOT analysis takes into account both internal and external issues, as well as present and future opportunities.

Implementing an ISMS requires the organization to expend its resources and is a strategic decision. A SWOT analysis of implementing an ISMS can help in defining the organizational context and interested parties and ensure the effectiveness of the implementation.
It can be useful for developing a better understanding of the security environment and supporting the business by giving insights into security assets, risks, issues, and challenges that the IT department – and thus the business as a whole – will be faced with.
