Content management preview


Liferay Portal has rich and strong functionalities for online content management. Before we take up its content-related portlet applications, we will review some concepts in content manipulation.

Analyzing online content

Content shown on a web page can be classified as follows:

  • Text

  • Images

  • PDF files and files of other formats

  • Videos

The images, formatted files, and videos are relatively static – they do not change very often. Some texts, such as online advertisements, do not change very often either. Other texts, such as the quantity of a certain pair of shoes at http://www.zappos.com/, change very often – they are relatively dynamic.

Organizing content

Liferay Portal uses different portlets to manage different types of content.

For static content, Liferay Portal provides the following applications:

  • Document library portlet that is used to upload video, audio, image, PDF, Excel, and other files.

  • Image gallery portlet that is used to upload image files specifically
