Assembling a modern chair using the 3D Box tool
We have seen that Inkscape is capable of producing three-dimensional looking art. This effect is achieved by arranging 2D shapes to give the resulting object a sense of perspective. Although Inkscape is not (and was never intended to be) a substitute for 3D CAD software, we can build some pretty complex objects with this technique.
In this recipe we will assemble a three-dimensional chair using the 3D Box tool.
How to do it...
The following steps will demonstrate how to construct a chair in three dimensions:
1. Zoom to fit the page width into the window (Ctrl + E or 6). Pan or scroll to the bottom half of the page.
2. Select the 3D Box tool (Shift + F4 or X) and create a box in the bottom-left part of the page. Check that the Angle X and the Angle Z parameters are locked (grayed out) and the Angle Y parameter is selected and set to 90 degrees. Set the fill to 40% Gray, stroke to 10% Gray, and stroke width to 2.
