Upgrading report specifications
This recipe will examine whether we can use the copy and paste feature of Report Studio to promote a report from an older version to a newer version.
Getting ready
You might not be able to experiment with this. I will perform this recipe using two Cognos environments: 8.4 and 10.1.1. Both the environments are configured and have the GO Data Warehouse (query) package published.
How to do it...
In this recipe you will see how report specifications are upgraded when copying the report to a higher version of Cognos:
Open any report in Report Studio Version 8.4.
From the menu, choose Tools | Copy Report to Clipboard.
Open the Report Studio instance from a higher version of Cognos. I will open one from 10.1.1. Choose the GO Data Warehouse (query) package.
In this new instance, select Tools | Open Report from Clipboard from the menu.
You will see the following dialog box:
Run the report to test it. In most cases, the report will run fine.
