Conventions used
There are a number of text conventions used throughout this book.
Code in text
: Indicates code words in text, database table names, folder names, filenames, file extensions, pathnames, dummy URLs, user input, and Twitter handles. Here is an example: "A subnet such as 255.255.255.0
contains a total of 24
ones, so we can represent this subnet mask by simply writing it as /24
. "
A block of code is set as follows:
html, body, #map { height: 100%; margin: 0; padding: 0 }
When we wish to draw your attention to a particular part of a code block, the relevant lines or items are set in bold:
[default] exten => s,1,Dial(Zap/1|30) exten => s,2,Voicemail(u100) exten => s,102,Voicemail(b100) exten => i,1,Voicemail(s0)
Any command-line input or output is written as follows:
$ ping 8.8.8.8 -c 4 $ sudo tcpdump -i eth0 -nn -s0 -v port 443 -w /home/kali/Desktop/tcpdump_capture.pcap
Bold: Indicates a new term, an important word, or words that you see onscreen. For example, words in menus or dialog boxes appear in the text like this. Here is an example: "The VirtualBox import wizard will open. Simply click Import to begin importing the virtual image into VirtualBox."
