Creating a map layout
A map layout is a final map product created in Layout View that can be shared with other users. A map layout is designed for digital view or print. Layout View is the map design environment in ArcGIS.
The main map elements are map body, graticule, scale bar, scale text, north arrow, legend, title, and map border. Some details regarding the map projection, contour interval (for a topographic map), source of data, name of the organization, and some explanatory notes will support the main message of a map.
Getting ready
In this recipe, you will design a thematic poster that presents a topographic map at the scale 1:5,000
. Your poster will contain three data frames and a title, scale, legend, and dynamic text. The following table describes the shape and size of an old paper map:
