Introduction
In Chapter 5, Functional Programming, we covered the Functional Programming paradigm. We covered Object Oriented Programming and Functional Programming, discussed the differences between the two, and outlined the reasons why we should use functional programming. In the second section, we discussed the key concepts of functional programming and demonstrated how they are applied to JavaScript code.
The JavaScript ecosystem has grown immensely over the past 10+ years. JavaScript is no longer a programming language to be used for adding flair, such as animations, on top of a basic HTML web page. JavaScript can now be used to build full backend web servers and services, command-line interfaces, mobile apps, and frontend sites. In this chapter, we will introduce the JavaScript ecosystem, discuss building web servers in JavaScript with Node.js, and discuss building websites with JavaScript using the React framework.
