An overview of VLANs
VLANs are used to provide a logical isolation between different traffic types or network areas. In other words, they are used to provide logical partition to a single broadcast domain. What it means is that a single layer 2 network can be divided or partitioned into multiple distinct broadcast domains. VLANs are used to mutually isolate the traffic inside a single network by using VLAN IDs. VLAN configuration is either done at the switch level or at the router level. To have unique network connectivity, it is important to ensure that VLANs are carried to all participating switches. To sum it up, you need to keep VLAN configuration the same on all switches.
A trunk port is a port on a network switch which is configured to send and receive packets on more than one VLAN. VLANs offer a wide array of benefits over the standard network architecture. A few of the major change maker key benefits are:
- Network scalability
- Network security
- Network management
- Creation of logically grouped...
