Building a PvP Map
What goes into designing and building the enjoyable player-versus-player maps that we see in popular games such as Phantom Forces, Arsenal, or KAT? One of the biggest considerations is how you can balance the map to give equal advantages for all of the players, while also encouraging players to strategize and work together in team-based game modes. In this chapter, we will be working on five key steps for successfully creating a balanced environment for such games – planning the layout, grayboxing, prop placement, lighting, and polishing.
As you follow along in this chapter, keep note of the common methods used for balancing the advantage points in various parts of the map, such as pathing and prop placement.
