Grayboxing the props
In this recipe, we will be going from room to room creating very simple silhouettes of props that we will be adding later in the Finalizing your house recipe. This is called grayboxing, which means to create very simple shapes that help give us an idea of which prop will go where. Grayboxing is a very useful step to ensure that you have a clear vision of what your map will look like before spending an excessive amount of time creating the final assets.
How to do it…
To begin, we will insert the standard player-scale reference named Bob, which we will use to ensure that we are building each room to an appropriate scale. We will begin in the kitchen creating counters and an island, then over to the living room to box out a couch set. We will then create a kitchen table set before moving into the bathroom to build out the toilet and shower.
