Understanding the hiring process
One of the goals of the hiring process is to get a complete picture (as much as possible) of the candidate’s skills, both hard and soft.
Soft and hard skills
If you don’t remember what soft and hard skills are, hard skills are role-specific, such as iOS coding, GitHub knowledge, and more. Soft skills are skills that are relevant for many jobs. Communication and leadership are examples of soft skills. Refer to Chapter 1 for more information.
Think of our candidate picture as a giant puzzle.
When we start the hiring process, each stage puts together another piece of the puzzle, and the process helps our hiring manager see our skill set before they offer.
Each stage examines a different part of our picture as an iOS candidate and, like a knockout tournament, determines whether the newly revealed part of the picture is good enough to proceed to the next stage.
