Finding your way to become a coach

Now that you understand that this is a viable career option, we should explore how you get to be in the running for this role. In this section, we explore some approaches to making this shift. As we addressed in Chapter 10, Looking for the Next Elevator, we now have another alternate path to consider.

It is likely that the contacts that you have are not the ones who are commissioned to find Technology Risk Management Executives, but this is where I would advise you to start. Your relationships and their strengths are the places to start discussions. Taking the coffee catchup approach with some of your trusted HR search firms would subtly let them know that you are seeking a new CIO or CISO role or are thinking about an alternative path to becoming a Technology Risk Management Executive.
