Fundamentals of Program Management
A large part of the TPM role is program and project management. However, the tech industry does not fit the mold for a standard Project Management Professional (PMP) style approach. It’s dynamic, fast-paced, and views the project management triangle in a different light than is seen in other industries. This section will explore the approach I see used the most in the industry. We’ll cap the section with a discussion on emotional intelligence, arguably the most important soft skill set for a TPM, especially given the recent rise in Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI). As more of our role is delegated to GenAI, the more we will rely on our own emotional intelligence to drive change through empathy.
