Restoring a Hyper-V virtual machine


This recipe covers how to restore a virtual machine, and also the different locations you are able to point the restore operation to.

Getting ready

When you want to restore a virtual machine, you open the DPM console and go to Recovery.

How to do it

In the Recovery section of the DPM console, choose your virtual machine in the Browse area. Expand the SCVMM "SERVERNAME" and on the right- hand side of the DPM console, select the desired date in the calendar and desired time in the drop-down list next to Recovery time. Under Recoverable items, right- click the server and choose Recover…; this will trigger the Recovery Wizard.

In the first step called Review recovery selection, you are provided with the information regarding what to restore. Verify the information and click on Next > to continue.

The next step is the Select recovery type, where you are able to choose where to restore the virtual machine. You can restore the virtual machine to:
