Designing optimal biometrics for mobile

When we authenticate, we are proving to be genuine or true. Passwords have been used in some form to provide a form of authentication since the early 1960s. While we will continue to use passwords, there are some advantages and disadvantages to using what you know as a form of authentication, as shown in the following diagram:

The one thing we can’t overlook in the disadvantages of using passwords is the fact that, over the last decade, billions of passwords have been stolen. As a result, the concept of password-free smartphones is becoming more attractive as an option to authenticate or interact with the device.

In the next section, we’ll look at methods to provide optimal design, along with exploring the concept of using haptics as a compliment to biometric technology. Let’s start with exploring ways we can improve the user experience...
