The Azure data platform offers multiple options when deciding to use both IaaS and PaaS. Running databases in IaaS offers more control, but requires more maintenance and administration as well. DaaS has many features which make a database administrator's life easier, but it lacks support to run certain features and legacy applications. The bottom line is that we need to decide how we want to proceed and assess the ideal option for our scenario based on the options required by our solution and offered by different data services.
Once data is in the cloud, Azure offers many analytics options which can help us to extend our solution. Again, we can choose between different IaaS and PaaS services to select the best fit for us.
