Let's look at how this platform has evolved over the last few years. We've transitioned from what used to be Dynamics CRM to a new unified model under the branding of Dynamics 365. This is the merging of the ERP and CRM platforms under a unified naming convention. As with all major changes, behind the scenes, things took a little longer to take shape.
In order to differentiate between the various platform purposes, we had Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement covering the former Dynamics CRM functionality. The platform evolved behind the scenes, and this allowed the separation of various functionality modules. The current offering includes separate modules for Sales, Service, Marketing, Field Service, and Project Service Automation. In addition, some new modules made their way into the bigger family, including the ERP functional modules, as well as new modules such as Talent.
