In this section, we will cover other initiatives that can be relevant to storage optimization but that don’t fit neatly into the previous sections, such as backups and log storage optimization.

Log storage optimization

The idea of observability has made an impact in the IT world for a few years now.

Using observability platforms, we are able to collect performance telemetry such as metrics, as well as logs and complete traces of what happens on our systems. Once all the information is in place, we can then build dashboards and reports with all this information, providing great value for technical teams and stakeholders.

However, having these platforms is a double-edged sword, as this huge amount of data and information can cause storage costs to go through the roof if not controlled properly.
