Installing and configuring VSAN


The process of creating a VSAN cluster is similar to the creation of vSphere HA or DRS clusters. In the previous versions of vSphere, when a cluster object was created in the vCenter inventory, the administrators had the option of vSphere HA or DRS under the Manage tab; an option to create a VSAN cluster is located under the same tab.

A VSAN network needs to be added to the host in order to use it. To add a VSAN network, perform the following steps:

  1. Select the host and click on the Add Networking icon.

  2. In the Add Networking wizard, select VMkernel network adapter and click Next.

  3. Browse and select the port group. You might create an appropriate port group in advance.

  4. Select Virtual SAN traffic as the service to be enabled and Click Next.

  5. Provide the IP information and click Finish to add the VSAN network.
