Introducing Edge form factor
There have been countless times when we would have deployed a virtual machine, assuming some specific value is enough for compute and storage. Later, when we start facing performance issues, we are forced to go back and recheck the application requirements. As far as the impact is concerned, it would be specific to one VM, so going back and forth and making changes is just about feasible. Well, this doesn't work with NSX Edge, primarily because it would be a perimeter device and the impact would be much higher. For the same reason, selecting the right form factor is critical in order to get the best performance. The following screenshot depicts the default compute capacity, which each Edge form factor offers:
The positive aspect to note is that we can always go back and change these form factors. For example, during initial deployment time, we have deployed NSX Edge in large form factor. Later, we can go ahead and change the form factor from large to any higher...
