Making the lid
We are now going to model the lid for our box, which will be able to slide in the grooves that we created in the previous section. To start, move the copy of the groove boxes back into the main box part, then set the copy of the groove boxes to be Solid shapes for the lid. I also chose to make the lid boxes a different color than the other box, so that they are easier to see, as shown in Figure 16.11:

We will use these boxes as a starting point to model the lid, which will need to be smaller to fit and slide in the grooves. As mentioned in Chapter 12, creating wiggle room between parts that need to fit together are called tolerances. To do this step successfully, you will need to identify the tolerances for your 3D printer and also for the material that you are using, also as discussed in Chapter 12.
We need the lid to slide freely, so we are going to create a clearance fit. For my...
