Sharing Tableau Content
From Tableau Desktop, there are options available to publish both the workbook and any of the data sources being used. Throughout the rest of this chapter, Tableau Cloud will be referred to, as this is what will be used for the demo, but the functionalities of Tableau Server and Tableau Cloud are the same. While interactive dashboards are the recommended method of sharing Tableau content, static exports such as PDFs and images can also be created from Tableau workbooks.
Publishing Workbooks
Once a dashboard or a series of dashboards has been developed, they can be shared with end users by uploading the Tableau workbook to Tableau Cloud.
The first step when publishing a Tableau workbook to Tableau Cloud is to ensure that Tableau Desktop is connected to Tableau Cloud. This can be checked by opening up Server on the top menu. The top result in the menu will either say Sign In… or will provide the name of the server the user is currently signed in...
