Using Fulfillment Software

In Chapter 5, Managing Sales Through WP-Admin, we talked about managing orders, including how to mark orders as shipped and how to print labels through your site. That’s the easiest way to fulfill orders and that’s how I recommend most store owners start.

Once your store starts growing and you need to ship out dozens of packages a day and you have full-time employees helping you pack and send orders, you probably want to set up software to help you ship packages. This is called fulfillment software. Alternatively, you might hire a third-party logistics partner (3PL) who will ship your packages for you. Both options have numerous advantages. Here are a few examples:

  • You can easily give employees access to fulfillment software so that they can do everything in their job (picking and packing items, printing shipping labels, and marking orders as complete) without giving them access to your whole site.
